1XI Captain: Eve Pearson

Eve is the perfect captain for the 1XI. She is excelling in her 4th year, studying international relations therefore has a serious passion for leadership. Being in the 1XI since 1st year, she is well equipped at dealing with the stresses and pressures that come with being in a performance team.   Her intelligence follows her onto the hockey pitch therefore it was no surprise to find her playing for her country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, at the ripe age of 20! Her knowledge and expertise will no doubt lead us to victory this year in both the BUCS and the Scottish Premiership.   Eve adds to her ongoing busy schedule by making sure the 1's attend each social and proves that the 1's are definitely not boring!!   We are thrilled to have Eve as our captain this year and can't wait to see what we can accomplish!

2XI Captain: Emily O'Hara

Our captain Emily O’Hara is a Vet Med student intercalating in zoology this year. So when she’s not on the hockey pitch she’s in the library learning all things about animals. On the pitch, Em’s Irish charm is matched by her feistiness, making her the perfect person to captain us through this upcoming season. Since coming to university, Em has been a pivotal member of 2XI both on and off the pitch. Although Em always seems to have a 9am on a Thursday, she’s never one to miss a hockey social and can be seen on the atik dance floor at 3am on a Wednesday night. This commitment also transfers to the gym, in her (limited) free time Em can be spotted at pleasance, lifting weights that put the men’s club to shame. Additionally, If you didn’t already know, Em is a vegan which means team potluck's consist of sweet potato curries and hairy vegan brownies, although they do somehow hit the spot on a hungover Thursday evening. The 2s are looking forward to an incredible season with our pocket rocket Em leading the way!

3XI Captain: Phoebe McCutcheon

Phoebe is in her second year studying psychology and has been in the mighty 3’s for two years playing a vital role in the team as vice captain and now captain. When she's not down at Peffermill coaching or playing, you can find her either honing her chicken costume for the next social or trying to live up to her dad’s name- however I don't think any of us want to hear a song written by her, judging by her Atik vocals. Although Phoebe has missed a couple matches now and again due to her bad luck with stairs, her commitment to supporting whether that be in torrential rain or slightly less torrential rain is unmatched, proving the 3s are in safe hands with our TikTok superstar cowboy dancing captain.

5XI Captain: Nicola Waite

Nicola is a 2nd year Biomed student, and the powerhouse of the 5's. Despite being on the 5's for only a year, she is a huge presence in the team. With a vicious shot on goal, a ferociously competitive nature and an impressive ability to inspire the team, Nicola makes an excellent 5's captain. You definitely won't miss her desire for 'outcomes, outcomes, outcomes' on the pitch. Despite studying 9-5 in the Nucleus, Nicola never fails to miss training or a cheeky fitness session. Not only is she incredibly committed to the sport, you can always catch Nicola boogying in atik with her fellow flirty fives. With Nicola leading the way, the 5's are in for a fantastic season!

6XI Captain: Molly Selby-Lowndes

7XI Captain: Daisy Shayegan

No one better mess with Miss Daisy Shayegan when she’s got her hockey head on. A legend in her own right: she has effortless, cohesive skills which are a backbone to gelling the Sevens together and creating a sisterhood. Her constant commitment to the team for the past 4 years is admirable; her levelheaded and wise nature always keeps us on track and hungry to get those wins. No one is a more deserving Captain than Dais. However, the ONLY thing… is that Dais just can’t say no to a social. Even if it’s half an hour before, the spontaneity is palpable and you best believe she won’t be going home early either. Her favourite Atik bev is an Iron Bru WKD. X Can’t wait to see what the rest of this year has in store with our amazing girl leading the way.

8XI Captain: Molly Macken

Molly is a third year geography student who is set on leading the 8s to yet another undefeated season. Molly joined the 8s just last year, but her commitment and presence both on the pitch and at the socials quickly saw her fit right in amongst the rest of the team. Mollys commitment to hockey certainly shines through with her host of outfits last year- the crayon was personal favourite. @Mollysfitfoods on insta provides the rest of the team with inspiration on how to fuel ourselves for another day of winning! The 8s are so lucky to have Molly leading us this season and we can’t wait to see what else is in store!

9XI Captain: Ellie Nielsen

Ellie is a third year landscape architecture student who has a heart of gold and is always looking out for her team mates. Ellie is taking the 9’s into their first ever season in BUCS and so far she is smashing it! Ellie is solid in defense, not afraid to put in a tackle or two. Her transferring skills are on par with her pint downing skills (almost). She has been part of the 9’s since her first year and is an essential part of the team both on and off the pitch. Ellie is always in attendance at the hockey socials and can regularly be seen cutting shapes on the atik dance floor (not to Abba though). She is always on it with the half time jelly babies and has even had a go in the goalie kit this season. She is a very committed member of the 9’s even sacrificing her fake tan on the regular for the team. She always has a smile on her face and is incredibly approachable. The 9’s are incredibly lucky to have her as their captain and leading them into the rest of the season.

10XI Captain: Lily Perring

Lily is a third-year psychology student from Harrogate, Yorkshire. She is always willing to help and as a kind and compassionate individual she is a great face of the team. On and off the pitch, she leaves behind her calm attitude, revealing a real grit and determination to win with her pitch side encouragement being heard all the way from Portobello. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do for the team, stepping in as goalie for an early season game, her undiscovered talent shone through. Adapting to the role, Lily’s determination sent numerous balls flying away from the goal, helping to lead the team to victory. She is always someone to be inspired by, whether it’s her commitment to the team on the pitch or her commitment to Atik. You’ll either find her at hockey trials selecting new members or in dropkicks flaunting her dance moves whilst dressed as a chicken. As an extremely organised individual, she makes for an ideal character to captain our team through what will hopefully be a very successful season. The 10s are in for a fantastic year ahead with Lily leading the way and are a force to be reckoned with.

Development Captain: Rosalind Murray

Ever since joining Edinburgh Uni’s hockey club, Roz has been a vocal and prominent member of the team. Her approachability and inclusiveness made her the best candidate to become the captain for the 22/23 season. It’s no secret that Roz loves a night out, especially if it’s at Atik or involves Karaoke, but as well as loving the social aspect that the hockey club provides, she will always be concentrated on helping the team to improve; she always keeps the spirits high on the pitch and will always encourage everyone to get involved. Roz is a natural leader at heart but also a great person to approach if you ever need a chat or cheered up, or even help with hockey. She’s the life of the party but also the life of the pitch and there is no better combination to be our captain.

4XI Captain: Lucy MacKenzie

This year’s 4s chief is Lucy MacKenzie. Lucy is a 3rd year Law student hailing from Stirling. She has the kindest soul and most generous spirit, always being found helping others out. As a trusted defender that nothing gets past, the fiesty 4s are in safe hands with Lucy in charge. Lucy has played her whole EUWHC career with the 4s and this unfailing commitment is evident from her hardworking attitude both on and off the pitch. Stopping attackers on a Wednesday afternoon and attacking the ATIK dance floor on a Wednesday night. In true fiesty fours fashion, Lucy can never say no to a boogie. The 4s are buzzing to have Lucy lead them into another successful season!
