Captain: Eve Pearson
Coach: Sam Judge
Pre-season began later than usual, following a very busy summer for the squad. In June, we travelled to Turkey for club Europeans and won 4/4 games. Securing first place and a promotion spot, as well as joint top goal scorers of the tournament (Amy Brodie and Sophie Hinds). Over June and July, four of our players were selected to represent team Scotland at the commonwealth games; Eve Pearson ©, Louise Campbell, Katie Robertson, and Jess Ross, along with alumni. Furthermore, 8 girls represented the U21 national squad at the Euro Junior Championships in Gent.
When the girls grouped together at the end of August, we worked hard on and off the pitch to prepare for the Scottish premier league, Scottish Cup and ICG Women’s National BUCS league.
Our BUCS premiership campaign started exceptionally when we secured 3 points in an away game to Oxford. The convincing 7-1 win set us up with confidence for the season ahead. The following week saw a thrilling 3-3 draw at home to Loughborough, a side that has challenged us in previous seasons. Following a few tough fixtures, the team are sitting in 6th place over the Christmas break ready to take on Semester 2 fixtures with the hope of securing a play-off spot.
The Scottish premier league proved promising in the first half of the season. Sitting in second place at the Christmas break, having only lost 1 of 9 games puts us in a strong position for the second semester. A strong preseason at the start of the year will be important so we can perform when the league splits, and we face the top 6 teams’ week in week out.
The Scottish cup campaign has been a huge success so far, progressing into the quarter final. In the preliminary stages we scored 21 goals, conceding 0.
The second half of the season will be both exciting and testing, however if we continue to improve and work as we have done it should prove very successful.
